Welcome

Welcome to Pyramus and Thisbe Productions!

Stuart Fortey's madcap HOLMES AND WATSON: THE FAREWELL TOUR has finally come to a close. The show began it's life at Alnwick Playhouse back in 2009 and finally closed in the village of Mossblown in Ayrshire in September 2024! We've staged the show nearly 300 times over 15 years but now it's time to move onto other projects.

May and June 2025 saw BAFTA nominated Tom Needham's Switcheroo tour nationally to sell-out crowds and I have never known a play have such an effect on the audience! There are plans afoot to tour again... Watch this space!

My own one-man show Twice Nightly goes out on the road for a limited try-out in May and June 2026. It's the story of a second spot comic on the variety stage in 1956.  Laughs a-plenty are guaranteed!

Freddie Francis has been a second spot comic for thirty years, touring the country on every variety bill going. We find him in 1956 recalling his life spent touring the halls; the ups, the downs, the riotous, the fantastic and the  downright silly!  He recalls his days entertaining the troops during the war, playing at the  infamous Glasgow Empire, and we discover what really happened when a speciality act lost her snake on stage!!

Ultimately Twice Nightly is a fading memory of the variety stage. The death of  something that has been part of everyone’s life for decades is now on the  decline. Where will Freddie go when he finishes this tour?  Who will he go back to, and ultimately who really cares?

Tour schedule to appear here when complete.

2025:

SWITCHEROO

By Tom Needham

When it comes to scattering their mother’s ashes, three siblings are hit with a bombshell revelation that turns their world upside down. This remarkable play by BAFTA-nominated Tom Needham is based on the very simple premise that ‘it’s not what you say, it’s the way that you say it’.

The first act is a full-blown, larger than life comedy then, after the interval, the characters swap round and it’s repeated as a serious drama. The contrast between the laughter and comedy in Act One and the truth and heart of Act Two makes it hard to believe these are the same characters saying the same words.

Venues we played:

York Theatre Royal, Guildhall Grantham

The Ropewalk, Barton upon Humber

Helmsley Arts Centre

Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond

Huddon Rudby Village Hall

Askrigg Temperance Village Hall

Victoria Hall, Settle

The Heron Theatre, Milnthorpe

Beggar's Theatre, Millom

Wootton Village Hall, Oxon

The White Bear, London

Birdsall House

 And for 2027 onwards...

Holmes and Watson: The Farewell Tour! by Stuart Fortey
Holmes and Watson are brought to life by Julian Finnigan and Dominic Goodwin as they re-enact one of the detective's most baffling unrecorded cases - The Case of the Prime Minister, the Floozie and the Lummock Rock Lighthouse! It's an affair upon whose outcome the security of Europe once hung by a thread, and shrouded in secrecy until now. The case has finally been approved by the government for public disclosure. It is understood that Mr Holmes has been entrusted by Her Majesty with the conveyance to the Tower of London of the fabled Satsuma Stone, stolen from the crown of William of Orange in the seventeenth century, and only recently discovered in Europe. One can only be thankful that Professor James Moriarty, the Napoleon of crime, fell to his death at the Reichenbach Falls. Or is he still alive, planning another deadly strike as he lurks, unseen, in the wings...?Written by Stuart Fortey, Directed by David Robertson it's fast paced entertainment and will provide many a titter! This is your final chance to catch Holmes and Watson as they embark on their farewell tour. Don't miss them. It's elementary!!
“Julian Finnigan and Dominic Goodwin respectively as Holmes and Watson give an outstanding performance. Finnigan excels as the straight man Holmes whilst Goodwin’s Watson is sheer comic excellence. A truly magnificent production guided through the hands of two masters of comedy on stage.”   Broadway Baby

275 performances from 2009 to 2022!

And still more to come!
